Eddie Martinez

Eddie Martinez is an American painter and sculptor based in Brooklyn. He is known for large-scale paintings that blend figuration and abstraction through muscular brushwork, and a mix of materials, including oil, enamel, spray paint, and collaged found objects, which also inform his bronze-cast sculptures. His practice draws on a deep understanding of painting’s histories, referencing CoBrA, action painting, and Philip Guston. Martinez has been the subject of major solo exhibitions including the Venice Biennale; the Yuz Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and his work is held in leading public and private collections worldwide.
